(Carla sustained a serious back injury 20 years ago while she was a paramedic with the Chicago Fire Department. Her path of recovery has given her a wealth of information that she wishes to share with others.)
Today's lifestyle, poor posture, genetics and trauma may all contribute to an increasing incident of back pain. Many yoga students come to class with complaints of sciatic discomfort, disc problems or stress related discomfort. Carla can offer informative and experiential seminars that refine student's yoga practice to suit the needs of their back. The goal is to alleviate acute pain and prevent future injury while strengthening supporting muscles and developing flexibility. Discover how to use props and modify postures practiced regularly in yoga class for a healthy, happy back!

Posture & Alignment

Explore thinking about yoga as the movement of the bones and joints of the skeletal system.  Practice how to stay within the structural limitations of your joints and protect their integrity.  Find your plumb line as you bring your skeletal system, muscles and structure into alignment.  Identify key muscles and learn how to strengthen and stretch them safely. Investigate the core stabilization of balancing postures.  Learn body scanning to recognize misalignments and problem areas and understand why each person moves differently and has a different capacity for each asana. Work with micro movements during asana to relieve pain and develop strength and stability.
