A Note from Carla
I believe that yoga can change the world - one heart at a time. Yoga can bring strength, flexibility and balance to your body, as well as enhance your immune system. More importantly, yoga empowers you - mind, body and spirit - to take responsibility for your health and control of your destiny.
Yoga is not the only path, but it has been an important part of my journey since I was 19. I have had a wonderful life of adventure and travel. I was a paramedic on the Chicago Fire Department and earned a Ph.D. in Physiological Psychology from the University of Illinois at Chicago. I traveled around the world, studying Tai Chi in Thailand, Tibetan medicine in Nepal and acupressure massage in Malaysia. I became a certified yoga instructor in 2001 and am so happy to have found my niche. My training at both the 200 and 500 hour levels has been at Kripalu. My approach to yoga is a blend of Kripalu and Iyengar disciplines; breathing into postures, focusing on alignment, and pausing to receive the benefits.
I continue to study and teach aspects of the mind/body/spirit relationship and am passionate about sharing my experience with yoga students and teachers. I am in awe of the human body and consider it a blessing to be able to teach anatomy and physiology to yoga teachers in training.
I am currently putting the finishing touches on my book Anatomy of a Yogi before releasing it for publication. I am excited to share my experience and knowledge with fellow practitioners.
Namaste,
